A Different Me

A Different Me

Isabelle and her sister planned a weekend in Vegas to escape their humdrum lives.  Creating new personas to amp up the fun, they end up with more adventure than they bargained for.

Excerpt:

    “Hello, Chantelle.”
His manner was different from before, menacing to be exact, adding to her unease.
“Umm, Johnny, right?”  She took a furtive glance around the empty hallway.  “I was just getting ready to call it a night.”
“Can’t let you do that,” he said, looming over her.  “The night’s just getting started.
She juggled the ice bucket between them.  “Listen, I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression…”
“This isn’t about you and me,” his eyes roamed up and down her body, “not that I hadn’t given it some thought.”
The door to her room opened, revealing Jennifer clad in flannel pajamas.  “Izz, everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine, isn’t it Chantelle?” he asked, mistaking ‘Izz’ for ‘is’.
    “I-I-I’m going inside.  Goodnight.”
She slipped into the room.  Before Jennifer could get the door closed, Johnny shoved his way in, knocking her into a sprawl on the floor.  Isabelle threw the ice bucket at him, joining in her sister’s verbal assault.
He laughed at them, brushing moisture from his lapel.  “Yell all you want, ladies.  No one’s up here this early.”
Isabelle lunged at him, the result of which landed her in a heap next to Jennifer.  Her blood ran cold when he took something out of his pocket, but it wasn’t a [weapon].  Before she could figure out what it was, a misty cloud wet her face and the room turned upside down.

Author’s Note:

I find myself envious of the characters in some of my stories.  They have more courage, are more adventurous, and definitely lead more interesting lives than I do!  This thought crossed my mind while getting to know the sisters in A Different Me who, inspired by their love of fiction, create new personas for themselves during a weekend away.
