A Misty Shade of Red
A Misty Shade of Red
Ever since the accident, Adam’s wife has changed. Her constant obsession with finishing her novel has left him feeling neglected and lonely. Finding himself caught between his love for her and a growing infatuation for someone new, he’s forced to reveal a dark truth.
Excerpt:
Adam spent the next day mulling over Kathy’s proposition. He did laundry, mowed the lawn, even scrubbed the toilet, all the while pondering the pros and cons of her offer. By the end of the day, the house was in order, but his thoughts were still awry.
Parked in front of the television, chewing on an overcooked frozen pizza, he looked toward Heather’s office. She had been there all day, never once engaging with him. He always thought of himself as a good guy. He didn’t want to hurt his wife, but didn’t he deserve intimacy? Not just sex, but someone to be with? He didn’t want to be lonely anymore.
Needing a break from Heather’s keyboard sonata, he put down his plate and walked outside. The sunset was like Pavlov’s bell, bringing the memory of Kathy’s kiss. Her mouth was warm. Inviting. Promising. He pulled out his phone.
“Kathy? I want something more.”
Author’s Note:
The ending scene was the first that came to mind for A Misty Shade of Red, a new experience for me at the time. The challenge was to see what story I could come up with to lead me there. As usual, my characters helped me figure it out.
